The final bottling from Dram Mor’s Summer 2022 Releases is this 15 year old cask strength from Foursquare Distillery, Barbados. ‘Nuff said, let’s get onto tasting the sample.
This Dram Mor Barbados from Foursquare is molasses based, pot and column distilled and aged for 8 years in an ex-Bourbon cask in Barbados and the rest of 7 years in a former Scotch whisky cask in the UK making it a 15 year old. Bottled at 59.5% ABV with a limited amount of 335 bottles and no adulteration.
On the nose it feels rich and a tad smokey. Red apples, sour cherries, watermelon, allspice and dark chocolate. Blackberry jam, stout and old furniture. It seems a tad scotch-ish. Cranberries and a sprinkle of peat. Dried figs, cloves and cinnamon with a touch of black pepper.
On the palate it’s pretty woody. Toasted oak, canned plums, blackcurrant and maple syrup. Black pepper, stout and dark chocolate. Dark and oaky indeed! Black tea, molasses and ground coffee. Overripe red apples, Cuban cigar, burnt cinnamon and banana flambe. The finish is long with molasses and oak spices.
This is stunning, on par with some of the Velier Foursquare releases at half the price – dark, oaky with fruity notes that linger and linger. No wonder it sold out at just £75 a bottle.
My advice is to keep an eye on Dram Mor as they are releasing fantastic value rums!
